Westport

Incorporated in 1787, the Town of Westport is located in the Commonwealth’s South Coast region and has a population of 16,339. Westport is the 9th largest municipality in Massachusetts by land area (50.1 sq mi).

There are five historic areas of the Town — North Westport (formerly known as Westport Factory); Westport Point where Main Road meets the river; Central Village with town offices, retail stores, and businesses; Head of Westport at the head of the east branch of the Westport River; and Acoaxet or Westport Harbor which is between the west branch of the river and Rhode Island.

Westport is part of the 8th Bristol State House District, the 1st Bristol and Plymouth State Senate District, and the 9th Congressional District.

Westport Community Schools

Our district consists of four schools — the Alice A. Macomber School (Pre-K through Kindergarten), Elementary School (grades 1 through 4), Middle School (grades 5 through 8), and High School (grades 9 through 12). Middle School and High School students attend the new WMHS on Old County Road.

Our district serves over 1,500 students, a 9.6% increase in enrollment over last year. Westport Community Schools is the largest employer in the town, with a total of 294 total employees across all departments.
