Issues
Budget
Taxpayers deserve a transparent and accountable budget process. As Chair of the Budget Subcommittee, Evan advocates for our schools, remains committed to sharing information with the community, and works collaboratively with the Select Board and Finance Committee to ensure accountable spending of taxpayer dollars that serves the needs of our district.
Personalizing Education
Offering an individualized approach to education remains a priority for Westport Community Schools. Evan is supporting the district’s efforts to expand its neo-technical programming to provide career-connected coursework and credentialing to students in a wide range of areas, from the medical field and engineering to manufacturing and OSHA 10 certification.
Local Aid
Despite budget surpluses at the state level in recent years and funding from ARPA, local aid has seen relatively small increases. Municipalities rely on this money from the state to supplement local tax receipts, fund improvement projects, and offer the many services provided to residents every day.
Evan has advocated for increased local aid to support education in our town, maintain infrastructure, and ensure public safety without increasing the local tax burden.
Fiscal Responsibility
The Westport Community Schools has a budget of over $23 million. One of Evan’s top priorities is to ensure that taxpayer dollars are spent responsibly and that the budget process is transparent. Evan shares regular updates on the budget process, is responsive to questions from taxpayers, and has assisted in the district’s presentations to the Select Board and Finance Committee as Chair of the Budget Subcommittee. Evan also reviews the Town’s audit reports as a member of the Audit Committee.
